Finishing Invisalign treatment is an exciting milestone. You’ll get to see your gorgeous new smile for the first time – and you’ll be keeping it with you for the rest of your life! But hold your horses, as you’re not quite through with orthodontics yet. How well you care for your smile after treatment has just as big an impact on your smile as the treatment itself. At VanLaecken Orthodontics, our mission is to help you achieve a beautiful, confident smile – so here are our tips on caring for your smile after Invisalign.
Be Diligent With Retainers
After you finish the active phase of treatment, you’ll enter the retention phase – and this is important. While your teeth are in new positions on finishing treatment, the soft tissues and ligaments that support them haven’t yet adjusted to these new positions. Without a retainer, your teeth will simply drift back to their old positions, erasing all your hard work! It’s critical to wear your retainer diligently to prevent this drifting and protect your new smile for a lifetime.
Maintain Oral Hygiene with Appointments
Oral hygiene was doubly important during treatment, and it’s still vital now. Maintaining a diligent schedule of brushing and flossing is critical to keeping your smile healthy and beautiful, and you’ll also need to keep up your regular dental appointments and cleanings. This will protect your new smile from decay and keep it healthy for years to come.
Keep an Eye on Alignment
Finally, keep an eye on the alignment of your teeth – and if you ever see things start to change, give us a call. Wearing your retainer properly should prevent any tooth regression, but it’s still a good idea to be proactive and watchful for any changes to tooth alignment.
