At VanLaecken Orthodontics, we’re glad to service patients of all ages with a variety of high-quality orthodontic treatments. One such treatment that we proudly provide in our Sioux Falls office is Invisalign. While Invisalign was once only recommended for adults, with the invention of Invisalign Teen, it’s now suitable for teenagers as well. While metal braces are still the traditional form of orthodontic treatment, we encourage you to consider Invisalign Teen as an option for your child. Invisalign Teen has become incredibly popular amongst the teenagers who have used it. We’d like to share with you some of the reasons why teens love Invisalign so much!
It Provides a Discreet Treatment
As indicated by the name, Invisalign utilizes aligners that are practically invisible. This allows for a more discreet orthodontic treatment. Teens who are nervous about how they might look with braces on won’t need to worry about their appearance with Invisalign; others won’t even notice the aligners!
There’s No Need to Restrict Foods
One of the biggest drawbacks of traditional metal braces is that eating certain foods could potentially break or loosen the wires or brackets. This meant that a patient wearing braces had to cut out any foods that were either hard or sticky. As most parents have realized, teens can be finicky eaters, which can make finding acceptable foods that their child will eat a big enough chore on its own, even without restrictions. With Invisalign, there’s no need to restrict any foods, which means a teenager can continue eating his or her “nutritious” regular diet!
It’s More Comfortable
With a mouth full of metal wires and brackets, it’s probable that these appliances will occasionally rub against the gums, lips, and cheeks, causing irritations. With Invisalign, that’s thankfully not a problem. The aligners of Invisalign are made of smooth, polyurethane plastic, allowing for a much more comfortable orthodontic experience.
It’s Suitable for Sports
Many teens happen to be active in sports, which can be problematic if they’re wearing braces. Playing any sports with potential contact can be riskier for those with braces – even if they’re also wearing a mouthguard. Getting hit in the face can cause even more damage to a patient’s mouth because of the metal wires and brackets. In some cases, the braces may even break. Invisalign, on the other hand, isn’t likely to break or cause damage to your mouth in these circumstances.
